Associates of the retired military officer and politician confirmed that he died in Lagos, today, following a prolonged illness. This concides with his erstwhile boss, Ibrahim Babagida's 70th birthday.

Aikhomu was a retired Admiral in the Nigerian Navy and also served as the `de facto` Vice President during the Ibrahim Babangida military regime from 1986 to 1993.
He hailed from Esan in Edo State
