Commotion in Ibadan over rumour of laced akara for students •It is baseless –Govt : Source Nigeria tribune

BADAN, the Oyo State capital, was, on Thursday, thrown into confusion following the rumour that some politicians in the state had served pieces of bean cake (akara), noodles and cooked rice allegedly laced with juju to some students in  public schools in the city.
Two women, trying to drag their children out of a school in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a rumour that pieces of bean cake allegedly laced with juju were being distributed among public school students, on Thursday
The rumour confused parents and guardians in the city, as they stormed a majority of the schools  to make sure that their children and wards were safe however, at the Baptist Secondary School, Oke-Ado, Ibadan,  like many other schools visited, many parents and guardians were seen at the main gate looking for ways of getting their children out of the school and taking them back to their respective homes. But the school authorities denied them entry into the school premises.  Surprisingly, the students started throwing stones and other dangerous materials from the school compound to disperse the people who had gathered at the gate.
The school authorities said that nobody brought any laced akara  balls to the school, thus, there was no need of opening the gate for anybody in order not to endanger the lives of the children in their care.
It took the intervention of the men of the Oyo State Police Command to restore normalcy to the school.
Meanwhile, a release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, SP Olatunji Ajimuda, described the rumour as unfounded and called on members of the public to disregard it and go about their lawful businesses.
