samson siasia sacked

Samson SiaSia
It has been learnt that Samson Siasia has been sacked by the members of Nigeria Football Federation (NNF) this meeting after their emergency meeting. This was due to the poor performance of the super eagles since he took over as the coach because the super eagles failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations. This is sad because, Nigerians want  want an indigenous coach for the super eagles, well, Siasia has not delivered, so, what next?
The Story
The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has fired Samson Siasia, the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The Technical Committee of the NFF had earlier recommended the sack and forwarded it to the Executive Committee.
At the meeting held on Friday, the Executive Committee adopted the Technical Committee’s recommendation that Siasia should be sacked for failing to meet the terms of his contract and that the penalty clause in the contract should be respected. The clause is that the NFF is at Liberty to terminate Siasia’s contract if he fails to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2012 CAF African Nations Cup. The team however failed to qualify for the tournament, no thanks to a 2-2 draw with the Syli Nationale of Guinea a few weeks ago.
The NFF Executive Committee also directed the Technical Committee to meet next week to recommend a replacement for the sacked coach. Three of Siasia’s team mates in the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, Daniel Amokachi and Sunday Oliseh have already indicated their intention to coach the senior national team.

Bomb at UN building in Nigerian capital Abuja - source BBC news

There has been a bomb attack at the UN building in the Nigerian capital Abuja, the United Nations says.
The BBC's Bashir Sa'ad Abdullahi, who is at the site of the explosion, says the ground floor of the building has been badly damaged.
The emergency services are removing dead bodies from the building while a number of wounded are being rushed to hospital, our correspondent says.
Islamist militants have carried out recent attacks on the city.
A car bombing at police headquarters in June was blamed on Islamist sect Boko Haram, a group which wants the establishment of Sharia law in Nigeria.
There has been no claim of responsibility for Friday's attack, but government officials have blamed "terrorists" for the bombing, our correspondent says.
Eyewitnesses and an unnamed security source said a car bomb had exploded, but that detail is unconfirmed.
Friday's attack took place at about 1100 local time (1000 GMT) in the diplomatic zone in the centre of the city, close to the US embassy.

There was a loud explosion and smoke billowed from the building. The powerful blast shattered all the glass in the building, our correspondent says.
"I saw scattered bodies," Michael Ofilaje, a Unicef worker at the building, said according to AP news agency.
"Many people are dead."
He said it felt like "the blast came from the basement and shook the building".
Police have sealed off the area.
"We have deployed our policemen and anti-bomb squad. We can't establish how many casualties [there are]," an Abuja police spokesman said according to Associated Press news agency

Mikel Obi's father picture after being freed- source AFP

Michael Obi, the kidnapped father of Chelsea footballer John Obi Mikel was freed in a police raid.

KANO, Nigeria — The kidnapped father of Chelsea footballer John Obi Mikel was freed on Monday in a police raid in Nigeria, and he spoke of being beaten by men in military garb during the abduction.
The raid occurred in the city of Kano, the largest city in Nigeria's north and hundreds of kilometres away from where the abduction took place. Police said no ransom was paid.
"Obi was rescued and six suspects were arrested, five men and a woman," Kano state police commissioner Ibrahim Idris told journalists, speaking of Michael Obi. "Obi is here with us as you can see."
Idris said a suspect led police to the house where Obi was being held.
Police did not comment on whether legitimate soldiers were involved in the kidnapping, and none of the arrested suspects were members of the military. While describing the raid, Idris said that "his abductors were captured."
Obi, appearing worn and with bruises under his nose, described the August 12 kidnapping in the central city of Jos, where he runs a transport company, and said he had been beaten.
A van in military colour overtook him and blocked his way as he was driving home from work, he said at the police headquarters. Two men in military uniform jumped out and asked him to follow them, according to Obi.
"They forcefully pushed me into the van and when I asked them where we were going to, they said I should wait and see," he said.
"They wound up the window so nobody could hear me even if I had screamed. They beat me to pulp and only stopped when I became very weak."
He said they sought a ransom of 10 million naira ($64,000, 45,000 euros) and eventually drove him to Kano, hundreds of kilometres away from Jos.
Two of those arrested who were allowed to speak to journalists said they had not kidnapped Obi.
One man who claimed to be an ex-policeman said he "was brought from Jos, where I was arrested in connection with the kidnapping. I made some contacts and they told me that the man was brought to Kano."
The man, Jacob Krombu, also said he had only heard about the kidnapping on the radio before his arrest.
Another suspect who said he was from the neighbouring country of Niger claimed he had been hired as a driver.
"I was only contracted by soldiers who told me to drive their four colleagues to Kano and I would be compensated later," Sule Ibrahim said.
In the days after the kidnapping, 24-year-old midfielder Mikel had pleaded with the abductors to free his father.
"All I can say is the country I'm from, Nigeria, I've always tried to help the country in every way that I can, playing for the country, serving the country," Mikel had said.
Mikel played the full 90 minutes in Chelsea's opening English Premier League match of the season, a 0-0 draw at Stoke City on August 14, despite being informed a day earlier that his father was missing.

IBB to OBJ: It’s an eye for an eye - source: nigeria vanguard

The last may not have been heard about the feud between former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, IBB,  and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as  the former  insisted that it is now an eye for an eye with the latter.  Babangida  said he would  no longer sit idly and watch Obasanjo throw darts at him.
Prince Kassim Afegbua, IBB  media spokesman,  who spoke to Sunday Vanguard on  behalf of his principal, yesterday, said  that legal redress was one of the options before them. The statement came on the heels of the alleged moves by some elders of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to get the warring former  Nigerian leaders to cease fire.
But in the statement that suggested  that Babangida was not in the mood  to ceasefire yet,  Afegbua said whereas “we are actually not fighting Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, it has not got to that level, we might seek legal redress on this issue”.
He went on:  “We think and most Nigerians do, also, that the former leader went beyond his  bounds to use very uncouth language to respond to what IBB said in his interview. I want to refer you to the published interview and, please find out for me, where we castigated Chief Obasanjo.
“General IBB only made allusion to the on-going probes in the National Assembly, several of which have exposed the rotten underbelly of that democratic regime of Obasanjo. He should rather call those who are exposing him through the probes fools and not direct his anger towards IBB.
“Every Nigerian who knows General IBB will attest to the fact that the former leader is highly cerebral and conveys a large dose of humility, tolerance and respect for people. He hardly discusses leaders on the pages of newspapers. But for him to be so described as a “fool at seventy” as a birthday message from a man who has gained more from IBB  was the height of crass irresponsibility.

We are still weighing the options because we might seek legal redress on this issue. Please go and check the dictionary meaning of ‘fool’ and you will know the import of what I am saying.”
‘NO TO CEASEFIRE’
The spokesman added: “Chief Obasanjo has just brought home ant-infested logs, so he must be ready for the visit of the lizards. We will not allow him to denigrate the personality and quintessence of IBB just like that.
People are aware that General IBB is very magnanimous and tolerant of criticism, he does not like joining issues with his subordinates and superiors, but on this issue, we will place history in its true perspectives. A sentence from OBJ will be met with two sentences from us.
A word from him will be met with a sentence from us. Gone were those days when people just ram things down the throat of General IBB and the man will just let things go by. These days, we will return word for word, sentence for sentence and phrase for phrase.
“What did General IBB say that warranted the outburst? Just tell me. IBB respects the young and the old. It is a characteristic in him that you cannot take away. Why then would he be that castigated by a man who has gained from IBB so much in terms of support? As Africans, if our customs and traditions are still flourishing well, it will not be out of place if he comes around every day to pay homage to IBB for rehabilitating his history and humanity. Please tell  Baba to know that he does not possess the monopoly for vitriolic attacks. The fact that we have tolerated him over the years does not confer foolishness on our part”.
Obasanjo has reportedly  stated that he would pass no further comments on the matter.
Babangida had fired the first salvo on Tuesday, the eve of his 70th birthday when, in a media chat, he upbraided Obasanjo, saying his administration spent $16 billion on power without generating electricity. He blamed it on lack of  foresight.
But Obasanjo, who ruled  Nigeria for a second time  for eight years between 1999 and 2007, in a riposte, described Babangida as a fool at 70.

Revd Chris Okotie's Birthday wish poem to former president, IBB - source:Nigerian independent newspaper

Chris Okotie, Pastor of the Household of God, also sent felicitations to Babangida.
Okotie wrote a poem which applauded him thus: “He is gregarious/Yet not boisterous/He is evasive/Yet not reclusive/He could be Machiavelli/Yet  arrayed as a political Armani.
“He is fluid in his aquarian disposition/Yet rock solid in his intrinsic determination/We salute one of the last great senior generals of the great Nigerian host/To IBB , the great Kahuna himself,/We say Happy Birthday Sire at 70/May the Lord grant you prosperity and longevity.”
Okotie said regardless of the divergent opinions people may have about Babangida, he remains one of Nigeria’s great leaders.
He prayed that God grants him long life and prosperity to continue to play his role as a senior citizen

Nemesis:Law of kamar-OBJ, IBB at war

Culled from Nigerian Vanguard
*You ‘re a fool @ 70 — Obasanjo * You, a failure, witless comedian— IBB
ABEOKUTA –FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo and former military President Ibrahim Babangida yesterday descended from the platform of statesmen into an acrimonious mutual war of words, accusing each other of foolery.
Good old days
Yesterday’s brickbat flowed from an earlier interview by Gen. Babangida on the eve of his 70th birthday on Tuesday where he said “in my eight years in office, I was able to manage poverty and achieved success while somebody for eight years managed affluence and achieved failure.”
Chief Obasanjo who was President for eight years retorted yesterday accusing Babangida of threading the path of foolishness at seventy even as he defended his administration against allegations of ineffectiveness couched in the earlier interview granted the press by Babangida. He said that Babangida should rather be pitied and shown sympathy rather than anger or condemnation.
Babangida responds
Babangida’s response was swift and severe as he tackled Obasanjo on both his performance record while in office and decency in his dealings even with his household and daughter in-law. He accused Obasanjo of being a witless comedian whose eight-year double term was characterized with human rights violations and mishaps including plane crashes.

Obasanjo who spoke with news men in Abeokuta during the visit of an American Team on an inspection of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) said that his initial thought was not to respond but that on second thought he decided to reply Babangida so that he (Babangida) would not consider himself wise.
He said: “Well, normally when I read these things I don’t believe them. Yesterday when somebody phoned me and said this was said, I said I don’t believe it. He said check on all the papers and I said get me all the papers; they got me the papers and I read; it’s a little bit unlike Babangida. But if Babangida had decided on becoming a septuagenarian, that he will be a fool, I think one should probably do what the Bible says in Proverbs chapter 26, verse 4. It says, don’t answer a fool because you may also become like him.
“When you go to the same Proverbs chapter 26, verse 5, it says answer a fool so that he will not think he’s a wise man. So, I am now torn between which of the two verses I should follow in this respect. Some of the things he said unfortunately were not well thought-out.
“For instance, he talked about our energy. When I was the military head of state, I built Jebba dam; built Shiroro dam, I prepared the foundation of Egbin plant which President Shagari completed and commissioned. That time the money we were making was not up to the money Babangida made annually for his eight years and yet we built two dams. Because it was important, you know that power is the driving force for development and for any developing country. But since the building of Egbin power plant, until I came back in 1999 there was not any generating plant for almost 20 years and Babangida spent eight years out of that. Now, he has the audacity to talk about anybody; I think that is unfortunate.”
IBB deserves pity, sympathy
“I also read where he said in his time, he gave the dividends of democracy and at the same time he regretted. When I read that, well I said Babangida should be pitied and shown sympathy rather than anger or condemnation because the old saying says a fool at 40 is a fool forever and I would say a regret at 70 is a regret too late. Well a regret at 70 is a regret to the grave.
“Then as elected president, I built Papalanto, Omotosho, others and I started five of what they called Independent Power Stations which were stopped for two and a half years. Now the present administration has started building a new power project at Uyo. As a country, Nigeria should be adding nothing less than 1,500 megawatts annually. South Africa with a population of 50 million generates 50,000 mega watts. Nigeria with a population of about 165 million we are not generating, we as at 1999 met 1,500 mega watts before we took it up to 4,000 mega watts. What we started they are now allowing it to go on. I believe if they continue with the programme that we left, In another two years , we will get to 10,000”.

The IBB statement
Babangida in a riposte through a press statement issued by his spokesman, Prince Kassim Afegbua said:
“It is certainly not in the tradition of General IBB, such a refined gentleman officer; to join issues with his subordinates’ and superiors, but for the price we owe history, this riposte becomes appropriate and necessary. We expected Chief Obasanjo to react to the substance of General Babangida’s submissions and not deploy this distractive strategy to shy away from the real issues at stake. The statistics of the government they both ran at different times, speak for them.”
“The history of Chief Obasanjo is an open sore that is irredeemably contrived in several incongruities and contradictions. When he pleaded with IBB to be given another chance to extend his tenure, IBB was not a fool then. When he was released from prison and granted state pardon, bathed in cerebral ornaments and clothed in royal beads and later crowned as President of Nigeria, IBB was not a fool then. Now that he is at the extreme of his thoughts and engagements, he can decide to dress IBB in borrowed robes.
But the histories of both of them, when put to public scrutiny comparatively, IBB is far glowing and instructively stands poles apart from Obasanjo. In terms of decency, finesse, class, distinction and general conduct, IBB could be described in the superlatives but for Obasanjo; God bless Nigeria.”
A witless comedian
“For a man who cannot possibly tell his true age, one may excuse his present outburst as the effusions of a witless comedian trying effortlessly to impress his select audience.

The law of Karma is at work, God will deliver us from them o.

Police blame Boko Haram for police headquarters attack - 234 next news

Security personnel scamper for safety when the explosives went off

The National Police Headquarters, Abuja was yesterday rocked by a blast from an explosive-laden car that was driven into the compound by a suspected bomber. The attack, which claimed at least two lives, came barely 24 hours after the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, boasted that the violent Islamist sect, Boko Haram, would be suppressed in days.
A traffic warden near the scene who requested anonymity said the explosion took place shortly after Mr Ringim's convoy entered the building. He said the bomber, who was driving an old model Mercedez Benz car, was right behind the IG's incoming convoy, and gained entrance into the building premises despite efforts to dissuade him by policemen riding in the last vehicle in the convoy.
Sources say that as soon as the suspected bomber entered the premises, he attempted to park the car beside that of the inspector general but was stopped by a police superintendent who forced him to move to an adjacent parking garage.
According to police spokesperson, Olusola Amore, "The traffic warden who entered the vehicle of the suicide bomber to direct him to the car park was blown off along with him as soon as they got to the park."
Early visitors to the scene say burning flesh and car parts flew out of the building and landed in adjacent streets, and cars parked metres away from the building had their windows shattered. Mr Amore said that over 700 cars were affected, with half of them destroyed.
When NEXT visited the scene about 30 minutes after the blast, military officers were seen guarding a human body part on a street near Protea Hotel, Asokoro, and there was blood beside the fence of the hotel near the police headquarters. A police cap with bloodstains could be seen by the walls of the police headquarters although the body of the victim was not there.
Only a day earlier, in response to Mr Ringim's statement vowing to end the menace of Boko Haram, the group responded by promising an all out war. It also threatened that it was pulling out of all peace talks with the government. A police officer at the scene of the blast said smugly that his colleagues have no doubt that, "the IG comment in Maiduguri led to this suicide attempt on his life".
Panic everywhere
Although the police claimed that only one person died besides the bomber, the actual figures may be more than that as at least three ambulances were seen arriving and leaving the police headquarters, taking victims to the Asokoro General Hospital. Many of the victims where injured during the stampede that followed the blast, which set off a series of explosions as cars burst into flames.
Doctors battled to save the lives of the 11 people who were rushed to three hospitals following the explosions. Correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who went to the National Hospital, Asokoro General Hospital and Garki General Hospital, report that the victims who sustained various degrees of injuries, were in stable conditions, according to doctors.

Breaking News: Suicide bomber bombs Police force headquarter in Abuja - source 234 next news

The driver of the explosive-laden car that blew up at 10.55am this morning at the national headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force drove into the compound in the wake of the convoy of the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, NEXT has learnt.
Unconfirmed police sources said Mr Ringim himself might have been the target of the attack, but the bomber was thwarted when the car was stopped from parking near the disembarking police chief by a traffic officer who on realizing the vehicle was not part of the police IG's convoy, directed the driver to move to the visitor's car park .
The car, eye witness say, was driven by heavyset man who was expensively dressed. According to the witnesses, there was a second man in the car and he was making a phone call as the car drove into the police headquarters. The car is reported to have exploded before it had reached the parking space allotted to it.
The explosion killed the two men in the car as well as the police parking attendant that was trying to lead the car to the right parking space. The police are trying to ascertain the number of other visitors to the building who were caught by the explosion while trying to park their cars. Only after this would the number of those who died in the explosion be clear.
The massive explosion shook the police headquarters building, shattering windows and causing cracks on parts of the wall. Tens of staff of the police headquarters also suffered various degrees of injury in their bid to escape from the building. They are currently being treated by emergency medical staff from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps and others.
No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing. It is the second major blast in the city , less than a year following the devastating twin blasts of October 1st last year which left over 20 dead

Al Qaeda Leader Osama Bin Laden Killed

Osama bin Laden

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been killed in an American-led operation in Pakistan, US President Barack Obama has announced. In the latest pictures from Abbotabad, a town just 60 miles from the Pakistani capital Islamabad, flames are seen rising from a building that was the apparent target of the raid.It is thought Bin Laden had been living in a $1m villa in Abbotabad.
He was reportedly asked to surrender by US forces before he was shot.Pakistani television stations have broadcast what they say is a confirmed photograph of the bloodied face of the world's most wanted man after he was killed. In the last few minutes, David Cameron has been speaking from Downing Street, saying the news would be welcomed across the country. It is, I believe, a massive step forward," he said.Earlier, President Obama confirmed in a news conference: "I can report to the American people and to the world, that the US has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden."The US president said he was briefed about a possible lead to the whereabouts of the the world's most wanted man and mastermind of the September 11 attacks in August and last week appproved an operation "to bring Bin Laden to justice"."A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties," President Obama said. The body of Bin Laden - who fled the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 - was recovered by US officials from the compound in Abbottabad, northwest of Pakistan, where he had been hiding.President Obama said: "After a firefight they killed Osama Bin Laden and took custody of his body."A US official told reporters that the corpse was being handled in accordance with Islamic customs.

Libya says Gaddafi survives air strikes, son killed - next news

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi survived a NATO air strike on a Tripoli house that killed his youngest son Saif al-Arab and three young grandchildren, a government spokesman said on Sunday.

Libyan officials took journalists to the house, which had been hit by at least three missiles. The roof had completely caved in at places, leaving mangled rods of steel hanging down among splintered chunks of concrete.
"What we have now is the law of the jungle," government spokesman Mussa Ibrahim told a news conference. "We think now it is clear to everyone that what is happening in Libya has nothing to do with the protection of civilians."
The deaths have not been independently confirmed. But they would be sure to heap pressure on NATO -- which denies targeting the Gaddafi family -- from opponents of the mission who say it goes beyond its U.N. mandate to protect civilians.
It would also show the vulnerability of Gaddafi himself.
Fighting in Libya's civil war, which grew from protests for greater political freedom that have spread across the Arab world, has reached stalemate in recent weeks with neither side capable of achieving a decisive blow.
Ibrahim said Gaddafi's youngest son, Saif al-Arab, was killed in the attack. Saif al-Arab, 29, is one of Gaddafi's less prominent sons, with a limited role in the power structure. Ibrahim described him as a student who had studied in Germany.
The grandchildren killed were pre-teens, Ibrahim said.
"The leader himself is in good health. He wasn't harmed," he said. "His wife is also in good health.
"This was a direct operation to assassinate the leader of this country. This is not permitted by international law. It is not permitted by any moral code or principle."
NATO denies Gadaffi target
NATO denied targeting Gaddafi, or his family, but said in a statement it had launched air strikes on military targets in the same area of Tripoli as the bombed site seen by reporters.

Post-election Protest: Fawehinmi Berates Buhari -source: Nigerian Thisday newspaper

Mohammed Fawehinmi
The son of the late fiery activist and lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Mohammed Fawehinmi, has attributed the post-presidential election violent protests in the north which claimed lives and  properties worth millions of Naira to  Muhammadu Buhari's alleged inciting statement urging his supporters to "take what belongs to them by force."
Fawehinmi in a statement Friday said the statement credited to Buhari was allegedly responsible for some people taking up arms against innocent citizens perceived to be working against their interest. He declared that in any contest, there is bound to be a loser and a winner.
The head of Fawehinmi law Chambers who described Buhari’s attitude as purely military and condemnable in a democratic setting said: "It is necessary to remind Buhari that his speech after he had lost the election has caused disunity, disarray, disorganisation and incessant deaths among innocent citizens residing temporarily or permanently in the northern part of Nigeria.
"Your character as an elder statesman has been tainted by your advice to your supporters to take what belong to them by force."
He questioned the country’s former military head of state's integrity and love for his country despite  the support and followership he enjoyed during his campaign saying "where lies your willingness to protect, provide for and preserve the integrity and the unity of our great nation you desire to rule?

Tears as corpses of slain ‘corpers’ leave Bauchi -source: Nigerian Tribune

TEARS flowed yesterday as the remains of the nine corps members that were killed in Bauchi State in the post election violence that erupted on April 18 were moved from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) mortuary to their various states of origin for burial. The corpses were evacuated by officials of the National Directorate Headquatres of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Abuja, led by Yakubu Jok, a Deputy Director of the NYSC. The officials arrived at the mortuary around 6 am and waited for the corpses of the fallen heroes to be dressed in their full regalia before the nine ambulances took off. It was an emotional scene that elicited tears from the eyes of those who witnessed the evacuation. The nine corps members were Adewumi Seu (Ekiti), Teidi Olawale Tosin (Kogi), Adowei Elliot (Bayelsa), Okpokiri Obinna (Abia), Gbenjo Ebenezer Aypotunde (Osun), Ukeoma Ikechuwku Chibuzor (Imo), Nwazema Anslem Chukwuonyerem (Imo), Adeniji Kehinde Jehleel (Osun) and Akonyi Ibrahim Sule( Kogi).Seven of themj were killed in Giade Police station where they had ran to for safety, but the rioters overpowered the policemen on duty and killed the corpers with machetes and sticks before setting the station ablaze. Mariah Carey gives birth to twins

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon celebrated their third anniversary with another milestone - becoming parents to a baby girl and boy.
Carey's representative, Cindi Berger, confirmed the births. The singing superstar gave birth on Saturday at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles.
Ms Berger said the baby girl was born first, weighing 5lb 3oz, and was 18 inches (45.7 centimetres) tall; her brother was next, at 5lb 6oz, and was 19 inches (48.3 centimetres).
Ms Berger said the couple had not named the children yet. Cannon drove Carey to the hospital in their Rolls-Royce Phantom. Ms Berger said 41-year-old Carey, who had gone through false labour, was calm, thinking that it was another false alarm.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old Cannon was so nervous he went to the wrong department at the hospital, and was guided to the maternity ward by a nurse.
"It was like right out of an 'I Love Lucy' skit," said Ms Berger, referring to the 1950s TV comedy.
Ms Berger said they were listening to Carey's We Belong Together after the children were born.
The couple are expected to renew their wedding vows on Sunday. The pair got married in 2007 after a whirlwind romance.
They were the subject of endless baby rumours, and the couple actually were expecting shortly after their marriage, but Carey had a miscarriage; they did not reveal the miscarriage until she announced her pregnancy last autumn.
As far as more children, Carey recently declared she's done.

The former Skoda Xanthi of Greece right-back died on April 18 on his way to catch a flight to Nigeria to finalise plans for his wedding to Folashade, which was scheduled for May 26.
The 25-year-old player reportedly lost control of his car on the Egnatia motorway before the crash while driving from Xanthi to Salonika in the Kavala region of Greece.
The burial programme of Olubayo commenced with a 30 minutes lying in state at Myhoung Barracks, Yaba, where he grew up.
His remains were moved to the National Stadium, Surulere, for another lying in state around 10.30am before he was taken to Atan Cemetery for burial. A brief service was held for the fallen player before the burial.
Olubayo’s elder brother, Abiodun Adefemi, said Olubayo had brought popularity to the family despite his young age.
Abiodun said mournfully, “He was a great brother; he was not only my brother but my friend. Even though we are from a royal family, the only other reason the family’s name was known worldwide was because of Bayo. We were five but now four.

Ladoja, others blame Obasanjo for PDP’s failure - source: Nigerian Punch

The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has attributed the failure of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South West during the last general elections to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.Ladoja, who was a member of the PDP’s Board of Trustees, apportioned the blame in a post-election press conference at his Bodija, Ibadan residence on Thursday.
He said that Obasanjo was the architect of the party’s downfall because he remained an ungrateful man.

Obasanjo, in his reaction to the loss of the state to the opposition party, Action Congress of Nigeria, in the governorship election said that the people of the state decided to vote for the ACN and not his candidate, Chief Adetunji Olurin, because of the pervading frustration of the people of the state with the PDP-led government in the last eight years.

Ogboru rejects Delta governorship result -source Next news

The governorship candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Great Ogboru, has rejected the result of the election held in Delta State on Tuesday, saying it was characterised by irregularities.
Addressing a press conference in Asaba yesterday, Mr Ogboru, who spoke through the state DPP chairperson, Tony Ezeagwu, accused the state resident electoral officer, Gabriel Ada, of receiving "gratification." He described the election as "unfortunate."
Mr Ogboru appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene to avoid a breakdown of law and order in the state

According to him, when the election started, the DPP's governorship candidate was winning until the PDP discovered the trend and embarked on fraudulent acts like snatching ballot boxes, mostly in areas the PDP perceived that they wouldn't be getting massive support from the masses.
According to the state DPP boss, voting did not take place in three controversial local government areas in Warri, yet the electoral commission went ahead to declare results from them.
"The INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) resident electoral officer in Delta State has been compromised. Time without number we called for his transfer but Prof Jega wouldn't listen to us because they know what they are benefiting from the state against the wishes of the masses. We know they are always working for the PDP."
Mr Ogboru appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to, as a matter of urgency, intervene to avoid a breakdown of law and order in the state. "Enough is enough," he said. "We will go out to reclaim our mandate."
INEC had declared the incumbent governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan, as the winner of the governorship poll. Announcing the complete results of the April 26 governorship election from the 25 local government areas of the state, the collation and returning officer for the governorship election in the state, Abhulimen Anao, said that the results had been duly authenticated. He therefore declared Mr Uduaghan winner, "having polled the highest number of votes cast in the exercise."
Mr Anao, however, observed that skirmishes in parts of the state prevented polling from holding in some areas, leading to a loss of about 35,000 votes, while invalid votes stood at about 33,000.
Total votes garnered show that Mr Uduaghan secured 525,793 votes against 433,834 votes got by Mr Ogboru, his closest rival.

Election reports from Benin -Polls peaceful in Edo, Oshiomhole, alleges malpractices -source: Nigerian Guardian

ELECTIONS in Edo State yesterday was held in a peaceful atmosphere even though there were pockets of mild violence in some areas, which was quickly brought under control by combined security agencies.
Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo State

Also, the House of Representatives polls into Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency was held under a peaceful atmosphere.
In Uneme Nkehua Ward Nine, voting was going on smoothly at the time The Guardian visited the area at about 3 pm.
But in Aiyegunle, Ward seven, the House of Representatives Majority Leader, Tunde Akogun alleged that the election was being skewed in favour of his major opponent, Peter Akpattason of the ACN.
He alleged that some traditional rulers in the area had engaged town criers to publicly announce their endorsement of the ACN candidate.
In Benin City, the state capital, voting went on smoothly without serious challenges.
Accreditation started in some areas in Igarra, Akoko-Edo local council as early as 8 am without any reported hitch.
There was no reported incident in the five councils visited in Edo North where Governor Adams Oshiomhole urged the people to vote and stay behind to defend them..
At  Obe Primary School Fugar, where Chief of Staff to President Goodluck Jonathan, Mike Ogiadhome voted, the turnout in the area was lower than what was experienced in the presidential election.
He told journalists shortly after casting his vote around 1.34 pm that he was sure that the election would go the way of the previous ones which were relatively peaceful in the area.
But in Ebele, Igueben Local Council, there was a reported case of ballot papers, ballot boxes and voters’ registration stolen by suspected gunmen.
There were also reported cases of skirmishes in Uromi also in Edo Central where the ACN was accused of being instrumental to the violence and attempted rigging in the area.
But the state chairman of the party, Thomas Okosun denied the allegation saying that the party abhorred  violence and rigging and could not  have indulged in such acts.
Meanwhile, Governor Adams Oshiomhole has called on the INEC, to investigate reports of alleged electoral irregularities in some parts of Edo Central.
He stated this shortly after voting at Iyamho Primary School  in  Etsako West Council.
Oshiomhole who arrived the Ward 10, Unit polling centre at about 11:51am  for accreditation cast his vote at about 12:32pm.
Speaking with journalists, the governor said intelligence report indicated that some political thugs invaded Amendokhian, Ward 7, in Esan North East Council, spearheaded by a serving member of the House of Representatives and another incident occurred  at Ekpoma, Esan West Council where soldiers in the area intervened to stop suspected PDP thugs from causing mayhem to pave the way for rigging. He said that he had drawn the attention of the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Rose Obuoforibo to the two incidents.
He said: “I have received two reports now; one is from Hon Itulah’s polling booth, Ward 7, Amendokhian, Uromi, Esan North East. They used their thugs to drive away our people, they carried ballot box and they are thumb printing. I have called the INEC REC to inform her of this development and she has promised she is going to act very swiftly.  In Ekpoma too, the PDP guys also tried to beat up someone, the army intervened and I’m told they have brought the situation there under control. So I imagine that in a couple of places, the PDP people who realised that we have educated our agents to watch out have resorted to driving away our agents and that way they can then have a field day.
“They have already in many cases paid corps members, presiding officers N10,000 so that they can turn the other eye while they want to thumb print, but whenever we have information, we are taking steps to inform the police, and INEC authorities and hoping that they will act on it.  But otherwise in most cases, from what I’m hearing everything appears peaceful.  But you know the real test of election is at the level of counting the vote and collation. I need to get full report on what is happening in Edo South . But in Edo Central, I think they are very determined to rig the election there, but our people are also very well on the alert to watch out.”
