ACN wins 19 Assembly seats in Edo
Plateau state
MOVES by the two Langtang born ex-Army Generals, Lt.-Gen. Jeremiah Useni and Brig.-Gen. John Shagaya to clinch the Plateau South Senatorial seat has been dashed as they were defeated by their Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Victor Lar.
Useni contested on the platform of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) while Shagaya contested on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
Lar defeated the former ECOMOG Field Commander and currently serving senator, Shagaya.
The Plateau North Senatorial District’s result has not been declared.
However, six governorship results in six local councils have so far been officially declared showing that PDP is leading with five councils while the LP won in only a council.
Ogun state
ACN-Ibikunle Amosun wins and he was congratulated by Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Major-general Olurin. Daniel and obasanjo also expressed satisfaction with the Ogun state polls
Ekiti state
WORK began in Ekiti State Governor’s Office with the popping of champagne in celebration of the overwhelming victory of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). The party won all the three senatorial seats and six seats of the House of Representatives.
Besides, the ruling party secured 24 out of 26 seats in the state House of Assembly, leaving the remaining two for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti-East State Constituency 2 and Ido/Osi 1.
Results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday and signed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hussain Pai, showed that the ACN candidate, Babafemi Ojudu, scored 63,747 to defeat former governor of the state, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, who got 29,773 votes. The PDP candidate, Kayode Alufa, scored 29,488 votes.
In Ekiti-North Senatorial District, Mr. Olu Adetumbi scored 58,568 votes to defeat the incumbent Senator Ayo Arise of the PDP who got 38,422 votes. In Ekiti-South Senatorial District, Mr. Tony Adeniyi of the ACN won with 70,360 votes while the incumbent Senator Sola Akinyede of the PDP scored 43,537.
Former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Opeyemi Michael Bamidele of the ACN bagged 42,075 votes in Ado-Ekiti/Irepodun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency while Tope Aluko of the PDP scored 13,774 votes. At Emure/Gbonyin/Ekiti-East, Faparusi Bamidele of the ACN polled 31,848 votes to defeat Bamishile Olufemi of the PDP who scored 21,619 votes. At Ekiti-South West/Ikere/Ise Orun Federal Constituency, Arowosoga Ifeoluwa of the ACN scored 37,747 votes, while former Ambassador to Canada, Dare Bejide of the PDP, polled 21,222 votes.
OYO state
Ajumobi of ACN wins
For the House of Assembly election, ACN won 14 seats; PDP won 10 while AP won eight.
According to the result released by the state Returning Officer, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, the governor-elect polled a total of 420, 852 votes against Alao-Akala’s 387,132 votes and Ladoja’s 275,773 votes to emerge the winner of the contest.
He won in 17 out of the 33 local government areas in the state. Alao-Akala won in 12 while Ladoja won in four councils.
The governor-elect also secured a minimum of 25 per cent of total votes cast in 26 local governments of the state while Alao-Akala had 25 per cent in 22 local governments. Ladoja got same in 10 local governments.
