FORMER Governor of Jigawa State and an incumbent senator, Saminu Turaki, has been defeated by the erstwhile Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman, North-West Zone, Danladi Sankara.
Sankara of the PDP polled 195,404 votes to defeat Turaki of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) with 93, 120 votes.
The former governor recently dumped the PDP for the ACN when he fell out of favour with his former party.
The PDP also won the Jigawa-East Senatorial District election where its candidate, Abdulazeez Usman Tarabu, polled 135, 202 to defeat his closest rival the ACN candidate, Ubale Shitu, with 93,120 votes. The CPC candidate, Hussein Garun Gabas, polled 30, 523.
The result for Jigawa Central Senatorial District was still being awaited as at press time.
However, election did not hold in Ringim/Taura Federal Constituency, which has been postponed to 26, 2011.
The Jigawa PDP has also proved its supremacy over the opposition by winning all the 10 House of Representative seats.
In GumelMaigatari/Gagarawa/Sele Tankarkar Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Garba HannunGiwa of the PDP won the contest with 61,064 votes.
The PDP candidate for Jahum/Miga Federal Constituency, Alhaji Mustapha Habib, defeated other four contestants to emerge winner.
Results from Gwaram Federal Constituency indicated that Alhaji Yusif Shitu Galambi polled 87,585 votes to win the polls.
Tijani Ibrahim Kiyawa, who contested on the platform of the PDP for Dutse/Kyawa Federal Constituency, won the election with 63,816 votes, after defeating four other contestants.
